What you described (about the device ID etc.) was exactly how I fixed my previous problem with my pentium machine. Only I couldn't find anything relating to PS/2 any more in the device manager. In fact, I indeed changed my keyboard from a PS/2 one to a USB one, as described in my original post. So I think something definitely changed with my computer hardware that's causing the problem. And in fact, I went back to the clean installation image just to see if that'd fix it, and it didn't. After a clean installation, I made a ghost image of the working system before installing the myriads of applications.īecause of such a procedure, I'm almost certain that the exclamation mark only appeared recently. In fact, I only recently built this machine, and during installation, I constantly checked the device manager to see if everything was installed and/or something might have gone wrong.

I'm running windows 2000 with all the updates installed. Sorry for neglecting some basic details - I was too engrossed with describing the problem!

That way, you will then be able to find what driver (if any!) is needed. If you do manage to get this information, it will help track down what the device actually is. The VendorID indicates it's an Intel chip, and the device ID indicates it's a fast ethernet controller. In this case, it a vendor ID of 8086 and a device ID of 1229. Do you have the vendor ID and device ID for it? Those are part of the registry key name. You said you'd managed to track down the device in the registry. As far as I can tell, you're running some form of NT kernel, but I can't tell if it's WinNT/2K or XP. It's not unusual to have several "motherboard resources" entries in there. I even found the record entry for this device in registry, but couldn't get anything useful there - I once was able to track down an SMBus driver problem on my intel machine this way and found the chipset driver for it, but seems that the AMD system doesn't provide as much detail about the devices. But I can't find any PS/2 entries in device manager. He told me to delete PS/2 entry in device manager. Someone replied about having similar problems after installing a USB keyboard, which happened to be what I did recently. Is there anyway to uninstall something and not have it This device really doesn't seem toīe of any use anyway, but uninstalling it gets me an exclamation mark of Platform driver from nVidia, to no avail. I recently noticed an exclamation mark in my device manager. I searched the forums, but couldn't find an answer so I'm reposting it here. I posted the following message on some hardware newgroups, and was referred to here for an answer.
